10th Edition--April 18, 2012

LATEST, LATEST, HEAR ALL ABOUT IT!

Here’s where you can sign up!  A Message from our Leader, Kaeleen Ringberg:
“Hey folks, we need to get a head start on canvassing BEFORE the primary, so I have put together some canvassing shifts for people to sign up with. Please reply with the days and times you are available to canvass. We are only contacting people who vote democratic but are inconsistent voters. IF WE DO NOT GET THEM TO VOTE, WE WILL LOSE. Please consider signing up for a canvassing shift, or a phone shift this week.   We only have 51 days until this is over. We need to get out and contact voters. We cannot lose this election.”

“Meet at the Ashland Recall office, 316 W. Main St., Ashland at the start of your shift.”  If you need to ask questions, please do not hesitate to call or email me at anytime with questions.

Walker’s anti-woman health bills go into law.
Here are a few new reasons we should work even harder to recall Scott Walker:
He is stripping away women’s civil rights.  On Good Friday week, Scott Walker was busy signing four anti-women’s health bills into law:  SB92 bans private coverage of abortion.  SB 202 Repeals Wiscconsin’s pay equity law.  CB 237 repeals Wisconsin’s comprehensive sex education law, and SB 305 adds new abortion restrictions with criminal penalties for doctors.  The bills have all become law.  Just like that, with a stroke of his pen, our ideologue Governor can repeal some of the better protections we enjoyed.  I never dreamed he would be doing these kind of things that take us back to the unfair conditions of the 40’s and 50’s.We must recall this man who has no regard for decency, women, working people, legislators, poor people who are in  desperate need.  Our quiet, steady carrying out of the work that needs to be done to educate voters WILL MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE.  Please do sign up.

Congrats to the Chequamegon Dems who raised over $3,000 at their fundraiser this past week!  The money will go to fund the office and upcoming events.
Kaeleen continues:
“We really need help with volunteers in the office making targeted phone calls to recall petition signers, identifying them as voters for our democratic candidate, and making sure they have their photo identification, we are also canvassing door to door in more walkable areas and need help with that as well. Our message at doors is the same as phone calls.

“Volunteers that have phones and internet at their homes can make these calls at home. We have an only phone banking system that allows us to monitor how often someone has been contacted so we do not over call them. I can guarantee that anyone you call between now and the primary has not been contacted by the Democratic Party of Wisconsin regarding the recall. We have a great system with google voice that allows you to use your phone without using your number or your minutes. We have some data entry needs but not very much. Mainly we are trying to contact voters and phone banking/canvassing is proven to be the most efficient way of direct voter contact.

I should also add that our ideal office hours are Monday -Sunday 10am -7pm, although due to lack of volunteers we sometimes are forced to close the office, I manage 5 counties and have another full time office in Superior that I have to run, so our efforts here are really truly grassroots volunteer based. Please call or email me if you would like to volunteer.

Please do not hesitate to call or email me at anytime with questions.

9th Edition--April 4, 2012

The Eyes of the U.S. Are on Us!

Kaeleen's call to action - 3 hours a week!

As we come closer to the primary election we have so much work to do. I know folks are busy but we only have so much time to complete our goals. Last week Scott Walker opened up  a "victory center" in Superior. A fully functioning and staffed office, this office opening should be a wake up call to all that this election is real, and that it is coming soon. Scott Walker will be able to raise about $70 million for this recall campaign. He has already raised $12 million just in the last few weeks!  In the last 6 months, the Democrats have been able to raise 2.2 million, and our pocket books are running dry. We have less than 25 percent of our usual field staff numbers on the ground and far less time to campaign compared to normal elections. I know you have a lot on your plate, whether its kids at home, or a second (maybe third) job, or another cause that is important to you, I know you are busy. That is why all I am asking for is THREE HOURS A WEEK. You can even volunteer from home! Three hours a week, can you spare that? Because if we cannot come together and find the time and find the energy for the next 65 days we will lose. The passion of the people can defeat the pocket books of the wealthy but we cannot sit by an wait for some else to step up and get the work done.  I am calling on all progressive and forward thinking members of the community to step up and donate three hours a week for the next 9 weeks.

I am asking you as a field organizer, a community member, and a friend, please if you can find the time, even if it is an hour at your home, please consider spending it working to recall Scott Walker because if we don't no one will.
