6th Edition--December 28, 2011

The Walkerly Reader, Edition Six
Dear Fans of the Recall Walker saga,
Imagine you’re in an airplane counting on the pilot to bring you in for a safe landing………………
Here’s the deal.  Our airplane is communicating with the control tower for a safe and smooth landing.  The airport landing strip is just a few miles ahead.  Our awesome coordinator, Kaeleen Ringberg, told me this afternoon that we now have collected 6,400 signatures. If we collect another 600 we will reach 7,000, which is double our original goal of 3,500.  That’s double our goal, fans.  Double…..  Just think about reaching that number!
She also told me that our region (Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas, Iron & Sawyer Counties) is leading the northern half of Wisconsin in meeting the new goals that were assigned on December 15 – she was given 3900 more signatures for her 5- county area, and we are 72% of the way there!  The other closest region to ours is the Wausau region that has met 42% of its new goal.
Your incredible enthusiasm, perseverance, and understanding of what is at stake has carried us this far.  Read below about four things you can do to help us come in for the perfect landing.
But first, a message from our pilot (Kaeleen):
“I am still confident that we can get another 800 by New Years! Would it be great going into 2012 with our goal officially doubled!  Please, bring in your sheets, even if there are only a few names. Every signature counts. We are also looking at having to close the office next week if people don’t volunteer, so any extra time you may have to volunteer will be essential in our FINAL push!  We are also going to need to expand
our visibility and need volunteers to do another drive in, stand in front of Penny's and make sure we have every signature possible. I was in the Coop the other day and got two new signatures in the check out line!

“I know it has been a long haul, but we are almost there and cannot lose steam! We cannot assume that we have enough or that our work here is done. We must continue to work as hard as we can for we only get one shot at this folks and we don't want to fall short!
            “Solidarity!  - Kaeleen  715-209-6182 (cell) “
Four things you can do to bring us in for the perfect landing. (And we are definitely flying…)
1. Sit in the Office.  Why?  Because we are steadily bringing in people to sign – just today we brought in 100 signatures because people are also coming in to turn in their petitions.  Why?  Because we have updates lists of Dems to call to make sure everyone has signed.  Why?  Because many calls have been made and people count on us being open - office hours (M-F, 9 to 7, and Sat and Sun, 10 to 6).  EVERY VOTE COUNTS.  Why?  Because people have counted on us to be there, and the word has gotten around everywhere that we have an office and people can go in and sign.  Why?  Because this is where petitions must be turned in by the hundreds of people who took them out to get signatures.  Why?  Because we know our best volunteers will want to pick up one more petition and take it somewhere….
2. Turn in your Petitions.  Why?  (See #1)
3. Take a StandWe’re it!  Call up a buddy and go stand somewhere.  Stand in front of Penney’s (Kaeleen says the downtown is bustling this week).  Stand in front of a P.O.  Or the Co-op.  Or inside where you are allowed.  Have a cup of coffee somewhere and lay your petition on the table, and ask as people go by if they’ve signed..  Say to yourself, “I can get two or three or four or six more signatures on my petition,” or whatever it takes.  If your neighborhood still has people who haven’t signed, knock on their doors.  Organize a drive-through.  Set up a sign and table somewhere and let us know what happened.
4. Some suggestions on how to leverage your contribution.  Call the office or Kaeleen today and volunteer. Maybe a few of you brave souls would be willing to take responsibility for finding people for one or two days.    Kaeleen is able to open the office everyday, and we have someone with a key who knows how to close it at the end of the day.  As of tonight, this is what we need:
Friday: Dec 30We need volunteers 9 to 7.  We have one new volunteer signed       up from 9 to 12, but she needs someone with experience to explain things to her..
Saturday, December 31 – We need volunteers during the day.  Kaeleen will be        there, but we need others..
Sunday, Jan 1 – the office is closed.  Happy New Year!
Monday, Jan 2 – We need volunteers 9 to 11, and 1 to 7.  Elaine von Fang is            there 11 to 1
Tuesday, Jan 3 – We need volunteers 12 to 4.  Jim & Millie O’Leary have     volunteered for 9-12.  And Jennifer Zienty from 4 to 7
Wednesday, Jan. 4 – We need volunteers 9 to 7 Noone has signed up yet.
Thursday, Jan. 5 – We need volunteers 9 to 4.  Darlene Neff & Denise Tar are         signed up for 4 to 7
Friday, Jan. 6 – We need volunteers 9 to 7.  Noone has signed up yet.
All petitions should be in by Jan. 6, so if circulators need to change anything,
They will have 4 days to do so.
Saturday, Jan. 7 – We need volunteers 10 to 6.  Noone has signed up yet.
Sunday, Jan. 8 – We need volunteers 10 to 6.  Noone has signed up yet.
Monday, Jan. 9 – We need volunteers 9 to 7.  Noone has signed up yet.
Tuesday, Jan. 10 –PETITIONS MUST BE MAILED TO MADISON!!
WED, JAN 11 – PERFECT LANDING.  NW WISCONSIN MAKES HISTORY!

One short story from this week:
Six of us went out to help Luis Salas go door-to-door in Bad River.  It was icy and cold, but we came back to the office with 77 more signatures!  Because half of the residents weren’t home, there are still many more to gather in Bad River.  Who would like to help sit inside the store at the Casino’s gas station location?  It’s warm there.
That’s it for this week’s Walkerly Reader, fans.  Until next week, when we will be looking out the airplane windows at our perfect landing………..
