December 12, 2011 Walkerly Reader, Edition Four
We have gathered 5,000 signatures!
Kaeleen Ringberg reports that with the 100 signatures gathered during the blitz of Bad River this past Sunday, and the signatures turned in from the Ashland blitz, and Ashland and Bayfield County efforts, we have now turned in 5,000 signatures. This is an amazing count that shows the sentiment that is felt by people who live in our area and are affected by Scott Walker’s policies. Many thanks to all of you who have worked so hard to date. Special thanks to Wendy Kloiber and the many volunteers for the Ashland door-to-door blitz on Saturday, and Luis Salas and Sandy Bender for the Bad River blitz on Sunday. And we’re not through! There will be a blitz in Red Cliff this Saturday. Contact Robert Arquette at 715-292-8030 if you would like to help out with that important effort.
So, just to review our amazing progress: by December 2 we had reached our goal of 3500, and in the past 10 days, we have added another 1500 to that total. This means, instead of the 25% of the signatures required from the last election needed to recall Walker, we are at 36% of that vote. Now we are aiming for 40-42% of the vote. We think we can make it with your help.
“Total Recall” push this Saturday, December 17!
As part of a statewide push to get out the most votes possible, most towns and cities in the State will sponsor “Total Recall” events this Saturday, December 17. In our Ashland/Bayfield County region we will have 5 drive-through events coordinated by Bev Patterson (715-413-0576), a Door-to-Door Blitz in Red Cliff organized by Bayfield County Coordinator Robert Arquette, and all-day open hours at our Office at 316 W. Main Street in Ashland (1-715-817-6567). You can help out with any of these efforts, and your help will move us towards our 5500 goal for this week!!!.
“Rations and Recalls”, (drive thru petition signing and food pantry donations)
>From Bev 12/11/2011
We now have 5 sites, possibly 6, for Saturday, December 17 from 11 am - 1 PM. Press releases were sent to Duluth TV Stations, radio stations and the Ashland Daily Press. There may also be an ad in the Press and a press release will be sent to the County Journal in Washburn. Next Saturday is United Wisconsin's Total Recall campaign, so this will fit right in.
We need volunteers, especially in Ashland for Maslowski Beach (by the Artesian Well) and Bayview Park. We could use a few more for the scenic drive thru west of the band shell in Ashland. Washburn volunteers will be between the IGA and DQ on Hwy 13, and others at the bus stop in Red Cliff across from the Adm. building.
This is a dual purpose campaign on Saturday. The drive thru volunteers should have both clipboards with petitions, and bags for accepting non perishable food donations. Rec Cliff and Washburn may have their own food pantries. Ashland's will go to the Brick, but we won't name them as we don't want to imply they are supporting the recall efforts. Please have signage to direct drivers if you are a team leader. I will cover signs for the scenic drive thru in Ashland. There are a couple at the Ashland office that could be borrowed. Joe Groshek will be team leading in Washburn and Red Cliff, Bev will team lead at the scenic drive thru. Need team leaders for the Maslowski Beach and Bayview Park sites. Will let you know further about a possible site on the other side of Hwy 2, if I get the OK. Team leaders will need to arrange the drop off of food donations, Ashland sites can arrange with Bev, or drop off at the Recall office and we will get them delivered on the following Monday.
Contact Bev, 715-413-0576 for more info.

In addition to these drive-throughs, please bring in a friend to our office at 316 W. Main Street, Ashland, and sign a petition there between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Volunteers needed in the Office
We have learned during our canvassing this past weekend, that everyone out there in the community seems to know that we have an Office with regular office hours where they and others can go and sign a petition 7 days a week. We are bringing in a steady 10-20 signatures every single day. It is important that we stay open as advertised (9 am to 7 pm, M-F, and 10 am to 6 pm Sat and Sun. WE NEED YOU TO STEP UP AND TAKE A COUPLE OF HOURS. Especially if you have circulated a petition and know what that’s about. Call the Office at 1-715-817-6567 to sign up, or sign up on our website at http://cheqbayrecall.weebly.com/can-you-volunteer-in-the-office.html
Calling in All Petitions!
The top priority in our efforts after between December 17 and the New Year is to return all petitions you have to the Office at 316 W. Main Street in Ashland. You may turn in any sheets that are correctly filled out. TURN IN YOUR PETITIONS WHETHER THE SHEET IS FULL OR NOT. Please remember, every vote counts, and as circulators, the people who signed your petition are depending on you to turn in their names! You must return all petitions to the Office by January 6 at the latest, and preferably before Jan. 1. We will need to verify your sheets, and if there are errors, they will have to be sent back to you for corrections. It is best that you bring your petitions into the Office and have someone go through each page and verify the accuracy of all entries. Be sure to sign your name at the bottom, with the date you turn the petition(s) in.
Finally,
There is no Kitchen Cabinet Meeting this Wednesday (for core volunteers.) Stay posted for further updates, however.
Okay, fans, that’s it for this busy and productive week! Until next week, this is your Walkerly Reader Editor/Volunteer signing out, Mary Rehwald. 715-682-4662.
