NEXT TO LAST EDITION -- June 1, 2012

Please help canvas and phone on Monday and Tuesday.  And stop by the office on Saturday and Sunday to see if your help is needed.  Talk to your neighbors, friends.  Tell people why you're voting to recall Walker.

Hey fans, we can carry this through to success!

Jim Oakley's email sums it all up....

Oh, and a fourth one: Vote --if you have not done so already!

http://youtu.be/iMZKOxd5ga8

For more than a year, Talgo CEO Antonio Perez has held his tongue as detractors dumped on his company and its trains, until finally he could take no more. Perez cannot believe the State of Wisconsin has chosen to terminate two contracts it signed with Talgo nearly three years ago. His company has put almost three years of work into a project to build and maintain trains in a warehouse in Milwaukee’s 30th Street Corridor, the long-dormant industrial area Gov. Scott Walker has pledged to help revive with a new, $100 million dollar plan. Yet his administration will kill the only viable company now operating there, Talgo.
“What message does this send to other businesses?” Perez asks. “They should be careful of doing business here because Gov Walker does not keep his word. It’s like we’re talking about a Third World country, where people don’t have respect for their contracts.”

In our next edition:  Read all about how Scott Walker was recalled.

LATEST, LATEST, HEAR ALL ABOUT IT!

Here’s where you can sign up!  A Message from our Leader, Kaeleen Ringberg:
“Hey folks, we need to get a head start on canvassing BEFORE the primary, so I have put together some canvassing shifts for people to sign up with. Please reply with the days and times you are available to canvass. We are only contacting people who vote democratic but are inconsistent voters. IF WE DO NOT GET THEM TO VOTE, WE WILL LOSE. Please consider signing up for a canvassing shift, or a phone shift this week.   We only have 51 days until this is over. We need to get out and contact voters. We cannot lose this election.”

“Meet at the Ashland Recall office, 316 W. Main St., Ashland at the start of your shift.”  If you need to ask questions, please do not hesitate to call or email me at anytime with questions.

Walker’s anti-woman health bills go into law.
Here are a few new reasons we should work even harder to recall Scott Walker:
He is stripping away women’s civil rights.  On Good Friday week, Scott Walker was busy signing four anti-women’s health bills into law:  SB92 bans private coverage of abortion.  SB 202 Repeals Wiscconsin’s pay equity law.  CB 237 repeals Wisconsin’s comprehensive sex education law, and SB 305 adds new abortion restrictions with criminal penalties for doctors.  The bills have all become law.  Just like that, with a stroke of his pen, our ideologue Governor can repeal some of the better protections we enjoyed.  I never dreamed he would be doing these kind of things that take us back to the unfair conditions of the 40’s and 50’s.We must recall this man who has no regard for decency, women, working people, legislators, poor people who are in  desperate need.  Our quiet, steady carrying out of the work that needs to be done to educate voters WILL MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE.  Please do sign up.

Congrats to the Chequamegon Dems who raised over $3,000 at their fundraiser this past week!  The money will go to fund the office and upcoming events.
Kaeleen continues:
“We really need help with volunteers in the office making targeted phone calls to recall petition signers, identifying them as voters for our democratic candidate, and making sure they have their photo identification, we are also canvassing door to door in more walkable areas and need help with that as well. Our message at doors is the same as phone calls.

“Volunteers that have phones and internet at their homes can make these calls at home. We have an only phone banking system that allows us to monitor how often someone has been contacted so we do not over call them. I can guarantee that anyone you call between now and the primary has not been contacted by the Democratic Party of Wisconsin regarding the recall. We have a great system with google voice that allows you to use your phone without using your number or your minutes. We have some data entry needs but not very much. Mainly we are trying to contact voters and phone banking/canvassing is proven to be the most efficient way of direct voter contact.

I should also add that our ideal office hours are Monday -Sunday 10am -7pm, although due to lack of volunteers we sometimes are forced to close the office, I manage 5 counties and have another full time office in Superior that I have to run, so our efforts here are really truly grassroots volunteer based. Please call or email me if you would like to volunteer.

Please do not hesitate to call or email me at anytime with questions.

9th Edition--April 4, 2012

The Eyes of the U.S. Are on Us!

Kaeleen's call to action - 3 hours a week!

As we come closer to the primary election we have so much work to do. I know folks are busy but we only have so much time to complete our goals. Last week Scott Walker opened up  a "victory center" in Superior. A fully functioning and staffed office, this office opening should be a wake up call to all that this election is real, and that it is coming soon. Scott Walker will be able to raise about $70 million for this recall campaign. He has already raised $12 million just in the last few weeks!  In the last 6 months, the Democrats have been able to raise 2.2 million, and our pocket books are running dry. We have less than 25 percent of our usual field staff numbers on the ground and far less time to campaign compared to normal elections. I know you have a lot on your plate, whether its kids at home, or a second (maybe third) job, or another cause that is important to you, I know you are busy. That is why all I am asking for is THREE HOURS A WEEK. You can even volunteer from home! Three hours a week, can you spare that? Because if we cannot come together and find the time and find the energy for the next 65 days we will lose. The passion of the people can defeat the pocket books of the wealthy but we cannot sit by an wait for some else to step up and get the work done.  I am calling on all progressive and forward thinking members of the community to step up and donate three hours a week for the next 9 weeks.

I am asking you as a field organizer, a community member, and a friend, please if you can find the time, even if it is an hour at your home, please consider spending it working to recall Scott Walker because if we don't no one will.

8th Edition-- March 26, 2012

Well fans, it’s time to get back into action!  Heed the calls from Kaeleen Ringberg….

Dear Recall Supporters,

We are a mere month a way from the Recall Primary Election and just over two months before the General Election. For the last 15 months we have fought so hard to spread the word about Scott Walker's cronyism and direct attacks on the people of Wisconsin. We have watched time and time again as he has chosen to serve big  business and big money instead of serving the people of Wisconsin. He took away union rights, he took away our advances in clean and renewable energy, he took away badger care from 22,000 children and reduced a woman's access to preventative health care and contraceptives. Now it is our turn to take Wisconsin's future  away from Scott Walker!

We have 10 weeks folks! 10 WEEKS UNTIL THIS IS OVER!!! Our office is open every day 10-7 and we need you! We need you to find the time, find the energy and find the passion to fight for our state and fight for our rights. We need to make sure EVERYONE has access to the polls and has the ability to get a photo id and to register properly. We need to make phone calls, canvass neighborhoods, pass out literature...WE NEED TO DO THIS! This is our one and only chance to do this right.

If we are successful in removing Scott Walker from office, then we will not only change the political climate in Wisconsin, we will be making a statement on behalf of the entire country, that the passion of the people CAN defeat the pocketbooks of the wealthy. Now is your chance to make history and to make revolution, now is your time to get involved.

Here are some up coming events:

Meet a Candidate running against Walker: Kathleen Vinehout will be in Ashland Thursday March 29th at the Black Cat beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Saturday March 31st 11am-1pm  "Bake Sale for Sean Duffy"---In front of Ashland Recall Office
The end of March will mark the one year anniversary of 7th Congressional District Representative Sean Duffy remarking that he was “struggling” to make ends meet on his $174,000 salary. Try as he might to retract the statement, the “struggling” comment Duffy made is clear evidence that he is wholly out-of-touch and cannot relate to the true struggles of the working Wisconsin families he was elected to represent.
To ‘assist’ Struggling Sean Duffy in making ends meet and keeping a roof (or TWO — he does own two large houses) over his head, we’ll be having bake sales. We’ll have a table and baked goods set up for sale. And we’ll be explaining to passers-by and customers why we’re having the bake sale, with tongue in cheek. Any money raised will be used to fund the placement of a TV ad on the "struggling" topic.

We need volunteers to run the bake sale and yummy baked goods contributed!

Wednesday April 4th; Unity Day Office Party with Mike Tate on Video Stream
On April 4th there will be house parties and office parties all over the state to celebrate what we are calling Unity Day. As the primary draws nearer we all have our own candidates in mind. What is important is that whoever wins the primary has the full support of all those who want to see Walker removed from office. Join us for a celebration at the Ashland Recall Offce (316 W Main st) and at 6:30 Mike Tate, chairman of the DPW, along with a special guest will lay out the game plan for how we are going to defeat Walker in the upcoming election.
We need a coordinator for the event along with volunteers to bring food! Please contact Kaeleen if you can volunteer!

Help Wanted:

2-3 part time office coordinators: Office coordinators will help with the daily operations of the office. This includes helping run phone banks, canvassing sessions and helping train new volunteers. Kaeleen will be traveling throughout the region helping coordinate efforts in several counties and needs help running the office when she is away. Please contact Kaeleen if you are interested.

Recall Walker Intern:  A great opportunity for a high school or college intern who is interested in being a part of this historic events. This is a 10-15 hour a week internship that will give a young individual experience in political organizing....a great resume builder!  Please contact Kaeleen if you know of a young person who may be interested.....

7th Edition--March 9, 2012

Well, fans, we are back!  Your exuberant activities led us to turn in over 8,000 signatures from our two counties, which was a mere 5,500 above our total.

 REMEMBER???

NOW WE WANT TO MAKE SURE OUR EFFORTS SUCCEED IN ACTUALLY RECALLING WALKER.

HOW???

We Really Need Volunteers This Week in the Recall Office!
This Monday through Friday, (March 12-16) we need to 10 to 20 volunteers to come in and type in data that we can use to make sure the Recall effort is a success when it actually takes place.  Please call Kaeleen Ringberg and volunteer.
Think of it this way: If your fingers still move, you can truly help us.  These names must be entered at the office.  It will take very little time to learn how to do this.
We have a few thousand names and contact information to get in the data base - once we get them in, we will be able to deal with voter I.D. issues and get out the vote to recall Walker.
If you have a laptop and can bring in your own, that would help.  There are two computers we can use in the office if you don't have a laptop.  Call Kaeleen to let her know when you can come in.  Her number is 715-209-6182.
Okay, I know this isn't as romantic as our heady two months when we collected signatures, but it is just as important.  And the office atmosphere is just as friendly as it was before.  So please plan for a few hours helping out at the office.  You can arrange the hours that re convenient for you.  9 to 5 are the general times, but any time might work as well.

Office Manager Needed !     We are looking for an Office Manager who can manage th
e office being open - whether this is for a few days, a week, or longer. Please let Kaeleen know if you can do that next week to help make this a success.  Her number, once again, is 715-209-6182.

Fundraiser April 13 at StageNorth, 6 to 8 p.m.  Jauch, Bewley and Kreitlow in attendance.  Liz Woodworth on music.  $10 suggested donation for appetizers.  Gourmet desserts for sale.

Be Prepared to Understand Voter/Registration!
Although an injunction against the new Voter I.D. Law has been issued, it is being contested, so we don't know the outcome.  So here's what the Voter I.D. Law would require: Proof of Identify and Proof of Residence.  Here's how it works:
       The 5 major changes are:

1. You will need to have a Voter I.D. to vote in 2012.  A driver's license or passport will count.  Our local Dept. of Motor Vehicle's Office has changed its hours and will now be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2501 Golf Course Rd. (just east of Sanborn Ave.)  If you simply want to get a Voter I.D., instead of a driver's license, just ask, and it is free.

2.  You will need to have lived in the district you are voting in 28 days before the election.

3.  If you are registering for the first time in your district within 20 days of the election, you will need documentary proof of your residence (driver's license, ID card, recent utility bill, bank statement, lease, property tax bill, check or other document issued by the government, a College ID if paired with a tuition fee receipt, or an affidavit from a social service agency identifying a homeless voter.)  Corroborators who can vouch for your residency are no longer allowed.

4.  Election day registration is still allowed, but late registration ends on the Friday before the election.

5.  Early voting is still allowed - in person until the end of Friday before the election.  Requests for absentee ballots and deadline for mailing in have not changed.

Other facts:
The Voter I.D. Law has two steps for voting: Proof of residence and proof of identity.

Voters will not need to provide proof of residence if they register more than 20 days before an election at their current address - by mail, by Special Registration Deputies, or at a municipal clerk's office.

If you are voting absentee for the first time, you will need to mail in a photocopy of your proof of I.D. with the absentee ballot request form.

The day of the election, when you receive a ballot, you will have to have an acceptable form of I.D. - WI driver's license (event if driving privileges are revoked or suspended), or a WI I.D. Card issued by the DOT (Dept. of Transportation), or an U.S. Military I.D., or a Passport, or a Driving Receipt (issued by DOT), or an I.D. (issued by DOT), or a certificate of naturalization, or a Tribal ID, or a Wis. I.D. from a Wisconsin college or university.

For those who go to the DOT to get a Free Voter I.D., you must provide proof of your name and date of birth, your legal presence in U.S., Identity, Wisconsin residency.  A full list of documents is available here.

For most applicants, this will require a birth certificate.  In Wisconsin, the cost of obtaining a birth certificate is $20.

Exemptions:  Photo IDs are not required of military and overseas voters, permanent  absentee voters who have declared they are indefinitely confined because of physical disability or illness, and voters who reside in Care Facilities (nursing, community-based residential facilities, retirement homes, residential care retirement complexes, or adult family homes licensed and certified by the state.  An authorized representative of the Care Facility must fill out the "Certification of Care Facility Authorized Representative" section of Absentee ballot certification.

If you go to the polls and forget your I.D., you may vote a "provisional ballot" which will be counted if you take your photo I.D. to the municipal clerk by 4 p.m. the Friday following the election.

Cheers everyone!

6th Edition--December 28, 2011

The Walkerly Reader, Edition Six
Dear Fans of the Recall Walker saga,
Imagine you’re in an airplane counting on the pilot to bring you in for a safe landing………………
Here’s the deal.  Our airplane is communicating with the control tower for a safe and smooth landing.  The airport landing strip is just a few miles ahead.  Our awesome coordinator, Kaeleen Ringberg, told me this afternoon that we now have collected 6,400 signatures. If we collect another 600 we will reach 7,000, which is double our original goal of 3,500.  That’s double our goal, fans.  Double…..  Just think about reaching that number!
She also told me that our region (Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas, Iron & Sawyer Counties) is leading the northern half of Wisconsin in meeting the new goals that were assigned on December 15 – she was given 3900 more signatures for her 5- county area, and we are 72% of the way there!  The other closest region to ours is the Wausau region that has met 42% of its new goal.
Your incredible enthusiasm, perseverance, and understanding of what is at stake has carried us this far.  Read below about four things you can do to help us come in for the perfect landing.
But first, a message from our pilot (Kaeleen):
“I am still confident that we can get another 800 by New Years! Would it be great going into 2012 with our goal officially doubled!  Please, bring in your sheets, even if there are only a few names. Every signature counts. We are also looking at having to close the office next week if people don’t volunteer, so any extra time you may have to volunteer will be essential in our FINAL push!  We are also going to need to expand
our visibility and need volunteers to do another drive in, stand in front of Penny's and make sure we have every signature possible. I was in the Coop the other day and got two new signatures in the check out line!

“I know it has been a long haul, but we are almost there and cannot lose steam! We cannot assume that we have enough or that our work here is done. We must continue to work as hard as we can for we only get one shot at this folks and we don't want to fall short!
            “Solidarity!  - Kaeleen  715-209-6182 (cell) “
Four things you can do to bring us in for the perfect landing. (And we are definitely flying…)
1. Sit in the Office.  Why?  Because we are steadily bringing in people to sign – just today we brought in 100 signatures because people are also coming in to turn in their petitions.  Why?  Because we have updates lists of Dems to call to make sure everyone has signed.  Why?  Because many calls have been made and people count on us being open - office hours (M-F, 9 to 7, and Sat and Sun, 10 to 6).  EVERY VOTE COUNTS.  Why?  Because people have counted on us to be there, and the word has gotten around everywhere that we have an office and people can go in and sign.  Why?  Because this is where petitions must be turned in by the hundreds of people who took them out to get signatures.  Why?  Because we know our best volunteers will want to pick up one more petition and take it somewhere….
2. Turn in your Petitions.  Why?  (See #1)
3. Take a StandWe’re it!  Call up a buddy and go stand somewhere.  Stand in front of Penney’s (Kaeleen says the downtown is bustling this week).  Stand in front of a P.O.  Or the Co-op.  Or inside where you are allowed.  Have a cup of coffee somewhere and lay your petition on the table, and ask as people go by if they’ve signed..  Say to yourself, “I can get two or three or four or six more signatures on my petition,” or whatever it takes.  If your neighborhood still has people who haven’t signed, knock on their doors.  Organize a drive-through.  Set up a sign and table somewhere and let us know what happened.
4. Some suggestions on how to leverage your contribution.  Call the office or Kaeleen today and volunteer. Maybe a few of you brave souls would be willing to take responsibility for finding people for one or two days.    Kaeleen is able to open the office everyday, and we have someone with a key who knows how to close it at the end of the day.  As of tonight, this is what we need:
Friday: Dec 30We need volunteers 9 to 7.  We have one new volunteer signed       up from 9 to 12, but she needs someone with experience to explain things to her..
Saturday, December 31 – We need volunteers during the day.  Kaeleen will be        there, but we need others..
Sunday, Jan 1 – the office is closed.  Happy New Year!
Monday, Jan 2 – We need volunteers 9 to 11, and 1 to 7.  Elaine von Fang is            there 11 to 1
Tuesday, Jan 3 – We need volunteers 12 to 4.  Jim & Millie O’Leary have     volunteered for 9-12.  And Jennifer Zienty from 4 to 7
Wednesday, Jan. 4 – We need volunteers 9 to 7 Noone has signed up yet.
Thursday, Jan. 5 – We need volunteers 9 to 4.  Darlene Neff & Denise Tar are         signed up for 4 to 7
Friday, Jan. 6 – We need volunteers 9 to 7.  Noone has signed up yet.
All petitions should be in by Jan. 6, so if circulators need to change anything,
They will have 4 days to do so.
Saturday, Jan. 7 – We need volunteers 10 to 6.  Noone has signed up yet.
Sunday, Jan. 8 – We need volunteers 10 to 6.  Noone has signed up yet.
Monday, Jan. 9 – We need volunteers 9 to 7.  Noone has signed up yet.
Tuesday, Jan. 10 –PETITIONS MUST BE MAILED TO MADISON!!
WED, JAN 11 – PERFECT LANDING.  NW WISCONSIN MAKES HISTORY!

One short story from this week:
Six of us went out to help Luis Salas go door-to-door in Bad River.  It was icy and cold, but we came back to the office with 77 more signatures!  Because half of the residents weren’t home, there are still many more to gather in Bad River.  Who would like to help sit inside the store at the Casino’s gas station location?  It’s warm there.
That’s it for this week’s Walkerly Reader, fans.  Until next week, when we will be looking out the airplane windows at our perfect landing………..

5th Edition--December 22, 2011

December 22, 2011Walkerly Reader, Edition Five
Hey Fans!  We have met Robert Arquette’s challenge of 6,000 signatures in record time!  Our fearless leader, Kaeleen Ringberg, has issued a new challenge…
Editor’s Note:  When Ashland and Bayfield Counties met their goal on December 2, of 3500 signatures (1/4 of the voters who had voted in the last election), Robert Arquette, the Bayfield County Coordinator for United Wisconsin, issued us all a challenge that we could reach for 6,000 signatures.  Well, in two and a half weeks, you did just that.  Thanks to the many efforts of those who went door-to-door in Washburn, Ashland, Bad River and Red Cliff, to those who sponsored drive-throughs throughout our two counties, to those of you who stood out in the cold, and carried the petitions under your arms to holiday events, and to all others of you who did whatever you could to give ourselves a very fine Christmas present.  Now Kaeleen is asking us to go for another 1,000 by New Year’s.
 Message from Kaeleen Ringberg:
Good Evening folks! I am proudly announcing that we have officially
sent out over 6,000 signatures from the Ashland Office! This is an
amazing feat everyone and I am so incredibly proud of everyone
involved, whether you have gotten 2 signatures or 200 or simply signed
your self, you have all helped make history in recalling Scott Walker.
Madison has taken notice of us up here in the Northwoods. Douglas
county is leading the state in per capita signatures and the Cheq Bay
is not far behind! I am now issuing a challenge: CAN WE GET 1,000
SIGNATURES BY NEW YEARS?

I think we can. I know we can. Lets ring in the new year with 7,000
signatures under our belt. How will we do this? Make sure all your
friends and family have signed. Get your petitions to the office, If
you can't make it to the office, I will be available to do coordinated
pick ups and so will others. If you want to volunteer, this will be a
busy couple of days at the post office, and the roads will be busy
early in the week for stop and drive activity. Keep up the good work!

Solidarity!,
Kaeleen Ringberg
Message from Kathy Tenney, Ashland office coordinator
Greetings Friends and Coworkers.

As most of you all know we've been doing great with the amount of signatures we've taken in for our two counties.  A lot of folks have worked hard and tirelessly for this to happen.  Special thanks go out to Kaeleen Ringberg for her lovely spirit, steadfast energy, direction and committment to this process.  I've but in a lot of hours these past several weeks and enjoyed every minute of it.  I regret to say that because of health reasons I need to back out of my role in the office and the hours I hoped I would continue to put in in the coming weeks.  I had signed up for Mon thru Fri morning hours 9 to 12. We need others to step forward to fill this time slot starting on December 26th. on. I will still be in at times and pick up limited hours when no one else can, as I am able.  I'll miss you guys and the satisfaction of doing this crucial work.  Warm regards and Happy Holidays to all.
Onward and Upward,
Kathy Tenney

Last night I turned in 165 signatures collected mainly in Red Cliff this last weekend, (and some from Mad Island/Bayfield area as well) There were even more that others turned in. Huge support for the recall in our area!!!!!!!  GREAT WORK PEOPLE
Robert Arquette wrote:
folks,
ya done well!
We got at least 60 signatures today. considering how many people have already signed and that there are approximately 510 people who would sign in Russell this is excellent. > 10% in one day, one event.
Please forward this on to anyone i may have missed and/or anyone you think would like to know.
Many thanx to everyone who contributed, everyone who encouraged/supported us.
 Onward! to 720,000 sigs!
